Case Study Discussion: 1. Lymphadenitis

Did not develop proper immune system
Very swollen lymph nodes (some abscessed) lining neck and front legs
Hind leg was filled with pus
2. Bowel ischemia
Chihuahua puppy was ready to be neutered, presented with gastrointestinal symptoms (not eating, irregular bowel movements, lethargy, etc.) and general discomfort.
X-ray and ultrasound were performed; vets decided to do exploratory abdominal surgery.
Found a portion of the bowel was looped through a hole in the tissue that connected the intestines/organs to the body wall.
Bowel resection performed, surgery appeared was successful.
Post-op, the puppy awoke from surgery but continued vomiting, had no energy, would not eat.
While under observation, fluid started pouring out of the nose and mouth, and puppy crashed.
CPR was performed for approximately 15 minutes before being declared deceased.
1/19/16 At tonight’s meeting, plans for this semester’s meetings and events were discussed. Proposed events are laid out by month below, and more details will be conveyed as we get into later planning stages. We are really hoping to make this semester an active one for all club members!
Club member, Mary Ann Thaliath, spoke to club members about her interview experience at Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. She gave some advice on considering out of state vet schools, and informed the club of Virginia-Marylands updated curriculum (focused learning by organ systems in the animal body).
