Keep in mind that these opportunities can fill up very quickly and be very competitive. The best way to maximize your chances of getting a spot is to always have an updated resume ready to give to professionals that you may meet and to always START EARLY! Some internships and volunteer opportunities may fill up as soon as October or November for the following summer. Even if you feel that August, September, or October seems too early to reach out to researchers or the coordinators of internships and volunteer projects, it is important that they know your name, have your information, and know you're interested. The worst they could say is "contact me again at 'X' time." Better too early than too late! If you need help getting started, talk to the executive board members or other general members! We are always happy to help. And remember, the links listed below are not the only opportunities available in the area, they are just the places members of the club have been involved with. Ask any veterinarians or shelters, a lot of them are willing to take in undergraduate interns or volunteers.
